Can you separate the art from the artist? Like for example: R.Kelly great singer but has done some wrong in his life. Can you listen to his music without liking him as a person?

    Most great artists are fucked up in one way or another. It takes an extraordinary person to create extraordinary art. I wouldn't want to be friends or lovers with many of my favorite artists even though I adore them. It's like a campfire - it's best to admire it from a distance and not get too close for your own safety.

    Look at Michael jackson! Sleeps in bed with little kids and was most probably a sex offender yet people still love him

      Just in my opinion I don’t really believe he actually did anything with kids....I’m not in love with him and his music I’m a fan but idk I find it hard to believe

        If some guy lived in your town and had sleep overs with little kids, what would suspect was going on? People give MJ a pass because he was a superstar.

        Even if he didn't do anything sexual to the kids he still slept in a bed with children not related to him and to me thats just fucking weird. I believe he did more then just sleep with em.

    I could never listen to a child predators music without feeling chills throughout the whole thing. R Kelley is a monster and should never profit even one more dime for his music. His money should be given to his victims.

    My policy with this has always been that if they’re a truly awful person it’s only okay to enjoy their art once they’re dead, or if you pirate it, or both. That way you can appreciate a beautiful thing without endorsing/empowering the monster that made it. Morality is not determined by principle but by effect.

    Depends how legendary they were. Everyone hates pedos but Michael Jackson still has a following. If he were just a decent artist perhaps he woulsnt but MJ was a legend.

        Whatever he was he admits to "slumber parties" with little boys in his 30s. Thats beyond creepy in itself. They slept in his bed. He was really creepy.

          He wasn't doing it to be creepy though. He was harmless, had a horrific childhood so it made sense he wanted to sort of live it through them, that's why he made his amusement park. Quite sad

            It is sad but he had some serious issues, just look at his face. I definitely wouldnt trust my kids with him. Idk what kind of parent lets their kid sleep in bed with a grown man. Thats highly suspect. I hear the theory about his bad childhood alot but a lot of people had worse childhoods and didnt turn into a freak like him. Good music tho.
