It seems ridiculous that you wouldn't pursue something with a person that you really like just because someone told you they saw them having a 3 way. But it sounds like it really bothers you for some reason, so maybe it is best to just stay away.
I have learned to be very cautious about gossip. Unless you saw something with your own eyes I would always consider it to be possibly untrue, exaggerated, and definitely only half the story. You have no idea what really happened, or why it happened. Even if it did happen how they said, for all you know she could have been drugged, she could have been going through a bad time, she could have been forced/blackmailed, she could be being abused by her dad and not known how to cope, she could be secretly gay and desperate to hide it, she could just be super horny. Who knows. Only she really knows the full story.
I definitely wouldn't use secondhand information as a reason not to be with someone who I really liked, without at least asking them for their side of the story first.
