I would love to know more about this, such as what specific behaviors are your parents labeling as "too independent". Why does the fact you are a girl have to do with it? Would the behavior be more desirable\appropriate if you were male? Do you parents wish for you do grow up to be an dependent on others because independent women are sometimes shunned\marginalized? At this points your 'rents sound like sexist jerks.
