  • Please don't leave us. It is rare to have contributors that can express ideas with metaphorical precision building a bit of suspense followed by a crescendoed conclusion. The reader's warm satisfaction with your final idea springs from the surrendipitous way you show us it was there all along.

    Welcome back CountessDouche.

    • Well, there's an impressive eloquence at work here, too, McBean, and thanks for the commendation.

I'm conscious of the wall of text I often put out and don't flatter myself that any but a few bother to read my contributions, let alone agree with them. However, I enjoy giving my perspective on posts that appear to be genuine and find great amusement in many of those which clearly are not - and particularly the often brief, 'angry' and 'outraged' responses they receive. Perhaps I have much to learn about the power of brevity!

It's in the nature of honest debate that you and I are sure to disagree occasionally. But, I'm always happy to give what ground I can and try to learn something new, even from an opposing view. And no matter how harsh the criticism, I'll never get into a rock throwing contest as I've always taken the line that, if you can't take the flak then don't put out the post. It's not that I don't have the ammunition, it's just that I'd rather try to make a friend of an enemy than the other way around.

I'm guessing Countess Douche was before my time. I don't know for how long I'll be around but certainly for as long as I'm enjoying the ride.

Thanks again, both to you and to Sebastian2013, for the much appreciated kind words.

      • Yes, yes. The fresh breeze of intellectual clarity awakens moribund wits to counter the pokes and prods of enlightened discourse, I'd say. Isn't it easier to breathe when you are playing at the top of your game?

Sorry I mistook you for CountessDouche. She was an American. Best writer at IIN in the last 5 years. She wandered off into the Australian Outback and never logged in again. A rather clever way fade into obscurity.

I play at the top of my ability so rarely that nobody would suspect that I once barely squeaked by into the MENSA Society. You're smarter than me anyway, except maybe at maths.

So, I am filled with anticipation. The ball is in your court, my Yorkshire lass. Go back to the baseline, click Submit Post, and serve us a shot.
