Can i get in trouble?

So im on my way home on my bicycle from work and working a ton of ot with little sleep I somehow thought it was a good idea to cross the street. Idk what the hell was going on in my head but yea rode right out in front of some dudes pickup and almost got hit. We both rode/drove off. Like 8 seconds later I smashed right into the traffic light post messing up my bike on the sidewalk.

Anyways can I get in trouble for riding right out into the street like that? I admit I'm rather worried. And then I saw 2 cop cars outside my apartment complex and now my head is reeling about what happened. If that dude was on his commute then he knows I ride that path at that time everyday. Itd be insanly easy for him to inform the cops. Just idk do i have anything to worry about? This whole thing kinda freaked me out a little

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

What are they going to come get you for? Pretty sure they don't investigate jaywalking incidents

  • Chances are nothing will happen just something you’re overthinking. Focus more on getting sleep so nothing like this happens again. Ik running on no sleep can make you do weird shit.

You need to get some regular sleep before you hurt or kill yourself or someone else.

And yes, of course you could get into legal trouble for being a danger on the road.

Technically yes, they can charge you with several possible things. However, they rarely pursue such cases. Most cops would just talk to you about it and warn you to be careful even if they did.

They probably would’ve just given you a warning about riding more safely but either way, it’s unlikely they could prove you did anything wrong.

I think if they had witnessed it at the time they probably would have said something to you about road safety, but I really can't see the truck driver deciding to report you to the police, and then the police investigating it to figure out who you are, gather evidence and then come and arrest you. Nobody cares that much. The police have better things to be doing.

    I doubt so.
