I have a real problem finding shorts with a 4 inch inseam, which are an absolute necessity if one is climbing from the dinghy over lifelines or up ladders in the boating world.
Anything longer can be down right dangerous as they won't ride up the thigh when lifting a leg to climb, hampering movement. I couldn't give 2 shits about style when safety is concerned. They sit mid thigh normally, so they are not true short shorts, and do not look ridiculous.
Unfortunately, the only pair I can find on the web, Lauderdale shorts by Sportif, are way expensive. Of course, if one wears their shorts up above their naval, then I guess all shorts are short shorts.
