Well, it's typically a cheap area to live and the scenery is nice. It's got a decent mix of conservatives and liberals and it's your typical small town, everyone knows eachother's business and what not so no surprises.
It's expanding so it's got most of the amenities of the city but car ownership is necessary to get anywhere and since most of the "gangsters" are too broke to afford cars, you don't get too many problems with them going into areas more than a few miles away from their neighborhoods. The economy is... improving, but it's a nice place if you like the historic, small town, southern baptist feel. You can hunt yourself a deer, go to church afterwards and then attend a gay pride parade down the street.
