Brown period blood

It's that time of the month for me. Is it normal to have thick brown blood down there? It's normally red, but this time it's thick and brown :( Is it normal???

it just means it's "old". the bright red is brand new, and the darker stuff, usualy comes towards the end of your period, is older. it's normal, you're ok!

    • Oh okay, that makes sense, thanks! Though it usually happens at the beginning and the end of my period. Maybe there was old blood left in there from the previous month?

No.. that's wayyy too long to be blood from the prev month. The vagina constantly cleans itself so whatever comes out is recent.

Yeah, every time I get my period I start out with this thick, brown looking stuff. When I first got it, I thought I was pooping out of my vagina and I was like "What the hell?" Nobody told me that it comes out like that at the beginning but now I know. It's totally normal.

It is normal. If you notice blood from anywhere will turn brown after a amount of time. So I assume it is the same thing. If you have a large amount of blood coming out for a number of days will some of it not get old? It is not to say it is from the wrong whole like this person has stated.

If it is constant you will still have some residue of blood left behind. This will mix the old blood and the new blood so some of it will be brown. It is not a big deal. The fact you are bleeding at all should be the scariest thing to go through but it sounds normal.

That usually means it's just starting or finishing up. For me anyway.

If you've missed a period it's absolutely and completely normal.

This is kinda an old thread, but whatever. There will never be old blood from the previous month. Your body is pretty skilled at cleaning itself out. Once is sheds the top layer of your endometrium (the lining of your uterus) it begins to rebuild it again for the following month. Mine is sometimes a lightish brown when it's a lighter flow, like at the beginning and end of my period, but it's always dark red of heavy days. It's normal.

Maybe I don't have any business responding since I'm a guy, but generally speaking, if something changes from the norm, it's usually not a good sign. You should get yourself checked out just to be sure. You may be having some sort of clotting problem. Hopefully it's nothing bad.

    • Thanks for the info. That sounds like a good idea. Come to think of it, myabe it was a build up (or clot) since I actually didn't get my period for a couple months (due to stress). I'm not preggo (took like 7 tests, lol). But yeah I think I will ask my doc about this. Thanks again!

Also some women have claimed to lose a period if you exercise a lot. So this is common in some athletes as well. You have nothing to worry about. Most of the people on this page do not seem to know anything about what they are talking about.

If you lose a period due to excessive exercise, that's not "nothing to worry about." That's BAD. I'm not going to assume that's what the OP has going on, but this needs to be clarified: THAT IS BAD.

How is that bad? I heard some Olympics athletes have lost it. That excessive exercise and training can slow it down.

Just because it happens doesn't mean it's normal or good.

Also anything coming out of your body is expelling nutrients or bacteria depending. Your body expels bacteria all the time like in your pee and in your fecal matter. Even spit and blood has a small percentage of bacteria and your body holds some bacteria to kill germs inside of your body.
