Bloopy noises in stomach

My stomach often makes weird noises... especially when I'm laying down. Sometimes it makes these "bloopy" sounds, like there's all kinds of water in there. It can be annoying (especially during certain situations). And sometimes when I poke it, you can really hear it. I've never heard of anyone else's stomach making noises like this, but mine has been doing it for at least 10 to 15 years. Not painful at all... just weird!

It depends on what you consider as usual. The digestive tract moves its contents along by a squeezing motion called peristalsis. This movement extracts nourishment from the food. Noises can happen if wind is present because it will move forward and then go back again against the flow. Wind can be the result of eating too quickly when air is swallowed and it can also be generated when fermentation takes place.

Some people are more prone to tummy rumbling than others. Some people burp their wind up and others allow it to go all the way down!
When food leaves the small intestine and enters the colon it does so through a non return valve and sometimes passing through this valve can cause a funny noise. Finally, food in the stomach can cause a noise as it churns around

My suggestion would be that you try to identify what food results in rumbling and also see if the way you eat or drink causes wind. Do you gulp your food down? For example, fizzy drinks involve swallowing a lot of air.

There is something that you might try and that is to eat charcoal biscuits. You might find them in a health food store. They are black and crunchy like digestive biscuits but taste OK. I remember eating them as a child as a bit of a novelty and looking inside my mouth in a mirror as I ate them! You can imagine the Black Hole of Calcutta! Charcoal has the property known as "adsorption." This means each particle attracts gas and holds it on its surface but does not absorb it. You sometimes see the odd black biscuit in a packet of dog food, this is the same idea.

I hope this explains things and helps you but please note that I am not a medical practitioner, just an ordinary guy.

If you are really hung up on this and nothing seems to help, you could go to see your doctor.

Try eating a big potion to reduce the noise level.

mine does that, too. I hear it all the time. It's especially loud when I'm hungry or when I'm digesting.
