Big puffy lips

Last Friday, I woke up with very swollen, puffy lips. I thought it was due to an allergic reaction to something. They puffed up and hurt like hell - and burned. No open sores or anything though. So they got worse on Saturday but then got better on Sunday. I took Benadryl which seemed to help a little, along with medicated lip balm. So then I woke up yesterday (Tuesday) with swollen lips again!! :( I took more Benadryl, but they are still just as puffy and sore. It's so painful. I am also taking Reactine, which I have been on for like 15 years for seasonal allergies. I'd go see a doctor, but because I have to work SO much, I don't have time!! And I can't afford to take time off. Some people say it could be allergies (though I haven't eaten anything different or been around anything different) and someone said it could be stress-related, which could be highly possible since I am VERY stressed out ALL the time. Is this normal? What do you all think? All comments are welcome, please & thank you! :) And no, I don't have any STDs, so that's out of the question!!

It definitely sounds like a allergic reaction. It could be both the medication for seasonal allergies and The lip balm or it could be something in your diet. Read The side-effects of the medication and stop using the lip balm if you can. If it doesn't get better go to The hospital. Allergies can go from minor to severe. If your throat starts feeling strange and you can't breathe then you would have to go to the hospital. Perhaps, you could get allergy testing?

It could be a perfume in a soap or something coming in contact with at work. I know I am allergic to dish sanitizer. Also mango's. Everyone is allergic to the outside of mango's because the chemicals in the peal are a lot like poison ivy or poison oak. I and everyone should suggest to remember you are important and you should take time to go see a doctor.

It could be the meds. I know you've been on them for 15 years but I react to meds even after being on them awhile. Of course, it could also be stress related. Have had that happen too.

i agree with chrissa114. considering you've already been on allergy meds for some time now you could have acquired a new allergy. that's very common. also with the seasons changing it could be something airborne. it's hard to know especially if it's allergy related. also considering it's happening only when you wake up then something is happening overnight so keep track of what u do and eat before you go to sleep. it also could be some kind of inner mouth infection. if it gets worse or still happens then u need to make time to see a doctor. hope it gets better

Thanks so much! Yeah I've heard you can actually develop allergies as an adult. I also can't eat deep fried food anymore (which really isn't a bad thing at all! lol). I find my body can't digest it right, and I then get in extreme pain!

Could it be anything to do with your bedding? Maybe something in your pillows? Even if you weren't allergic before, you may be now to something in your bedding.

That's what I was wondering, but nothing has changed. Though maybe I will try changed the sheets this weekend to see if it makes a difference. Thanks!

No, I'm as white as a ghost, lol. Caucasian, lol. I was going to mention that when I wrote this, but I didn't want to come off racist or anything. But it's true that most African Americans do have big lips (which is not a bad thing at all!)
