She's wrong for saying those things to you and your husband but I'd say it's normal because nowadays, that's how people greet the truth. With hostility and denial.
He'll be okay. Just give it time. Let him vent to you or hug him or whatever else he might need. You're his wife afterall. If anyone can cheer your husband up, it's you. Sounds like you really love him.

But what should I do about my husband? He's really hurt. I mean I could care less about how his mother feels but it's my husband I'm worried about.
