I think it depends who's doing the breaking up in these on and off times. If the guy's doing so and then going and trying to screw around with the friend, that's sad. If the girl is asking for the time off, then he's being a bit insensitive, but he's really not doing anything objectively wrong.
He is the one that breaks up with her every single time, which is why it is so annoying when she goes crawling back to him every time. I guess I want a way to solve all this without having to tell her the truth since that is really between her, her best friend, and her boyfriend.
Should I speak to him about this? He is a close friend of mine as well.
I would say talking to him may be the best solution here. It generally isn't good policy to get involved in your friends' relationships but in this case, I think it might be okay.
