Benzos + antidepressants + alcohol = i hate everyone and everything

So it's me, the med head on antidepressants...

Took a benzo cos I couldn't face a work situation without panicking...

... then later a colleague offered me a kir (peach liqueur and white wine) over lunch...

Naturally, I forgot I had taken the benzo (I can't remember the name of it now and it probs doesn't matter). And I drank a rather large glass of the kir.

I went happy and elated... then felt like I was going to puke, which was horrible... and now I'm in this slump where I hate everyone and everything and get urges to kill myself; all the music I like is just irritating me and virtually nothing is making me feel better except morbid podcasts about death.

Is this a normal comedown from these kinds of substances?? I'm not used to feeling this much hate. I hardly recognise myself.

You're not supposed to be really drinking when you are on psychiatric medications. Also, don't drink on an empty stomach.

It sounds like you have issues that are making a more depressed, and anxious than usual, and that may have triggered you to drink more than you should have. Do you have a therapist?

  • DO NOT DRINK WHILST TAKING BENZOS! IT CAN BE FATAL!

What has happened is you are experiencing what some people have to live with every day of their life (the people who seem miserable for no reason - thats me).

The benzos caused the alchol to have an opposite effect, I don't know anything that a doctor might be able to say but you pretty much pointed out why you feel shit, if you mix drugs it can mess with your head.

Remember as well, alcohol has an anti anxiety effect, so do benzos, and mixing a depressant (alcohol) with an anti depressant is going to have a bad effect.

Don't mix drugs, remember that alcohol and anti depressants are drugs too.

Your crazy thoughts already exist. SSRi inhibitors can either help or hurt. There is a huge spectrum of emotions from them. Mixing benzos and alcohol will make you wasted and complex your already muddled crazy head. Enjoy your buzz and go to sleep. Don't do anything stupid.

    • I've survived until now. I think if I was going to die it would already have happened.

          • No, we were cleaning the industrial kitchen’s dish room at my summer job and my friend Cameron had the bright idea to pour limeaway and bleach down the sink.

It was more like, mustard gas. In a contained space, resulting in me having a /very/ hard time breathing and going to the nurse station for the night. The next week felt like I was recovering from the flu. But we called poison control and basically they said “DON’T EVER MIX BLEACH WITH ANYTHING” and then walked them through what happened and woo i’m still alive.

Cameron felt bad though, really bad.
