It's normal. Your belly button is like a little catch all, full of sweat, grime, pet hair/dander(if you have pets), lint, and just random crumbs. It's easy to forget about so if you leave it unattended it will build up a stinky sort of paste- aka "cheese" rubbing alcohol and Qtip every day works great. I used to work long shifts and sweat like a pig... I was laying in bed one night and tugged my shirt down and I noticed I pulled something out of my belly button. When I looked I had literal cheesey stench petals rolling over the sides of my deep belly button. IT WAS FREAKING DISGUSTING! But was super clean after I pulled them out and cleaned up.
