My dad has poured over 10,000 hours into this game and thinks it's for smart people. He also didn't have a proper education growing up because money and second world country.

    Certain types of games and train certain mental skills, but I don't think match three games help very much. Try getting him to play strategy games or Brain Age.

    I'm sure it improves pattern recognition, which is one part of intelligence.
