Yeah, I think this is more of your issue than unreasonable other people. I can understand following certain rules, but being as much of a stickler as you are seems a bit far. You'd fit in in Japan though. They don't cross empty streets unless the light is red.
Tbf, there are far worse issues to have, and in places like Japan, where everyone is like you in this regard, their streets are so clean that they have Koi fish living in those run off drain you see at the side of streets because no one drops rubbish.
