I signed up just to freaking post on this, you are NOT atheistic. you are at best AGNOSTIC. and you talk about logic??????? not to be an ass about it, but please try to prove logically to me that there is no god. It's just as hard as proving that there really is a god. If you can't prove that there is no god then what use is there in being atheistic? in my humble opinion you are being just as hard-headed as christians who lie, cheat, look at wo/men in lust (which we all inevitably do) without thinking about their own religion. and most aheists are also just psychologically deceiving themselves into thinking they are right (it's the psychological comfort zone, as in we need to 'understand' or else we would really go insane). and let me tell you why some "smart" people believe in god. because it is really them who uses true logic. Think about eternity, in christianity, islam and judaism you burn in hell if you are anything but a god believer this life. On the other hand, eastern religions such as buddhism, hinduism and many other sects or combination of these religions believe in samsara and karma aka reincarnation. Now let's talk math, more precisely probability, if you choose buddhism, well you get another chance in my point of view (its debatable tho) but in the abrahamic religions you don't get a second chance you burn till judgement day after just one chance.
So knowing this let me ask you, what is more logical? believing in nothingness (sort of like anomy this includes atheism), believing in something that will give you a second chance if you screw it up this life (like buddhism), or believe in one of the abrahamic religions (such as christianity) in the off chance that the bible/qu'ran is right, which i might add is one the freaking oldest books in history and must be based on something even if it's made up. so to some, believing in christianity is like a safety net of sorts.
don't claim to be atheistic when you haven't really thought about the magnitude of what you are saying.
just needed that out of my system xD, have a great life debating between religions. and remember you can be both buddhist and christian at the same time ;) don't you just love that logic.
and might i add logic and common sense itself is illogical, for example gravity: just because gravity works today does it mean it will work tomorrow? you can't really know can you? you can say that the probability that it will work tomorrow based on thousands of years of seeing it work is quite high, but you cannnot say that for 'certain' that it will work tomorrow, perhaps a god or aliens with advanced technology will come and render gravity null. This argument can be used for anything that people believe are intrinsically true.
So what now? do we just believe that nothing can be believed? no that's impossible because like i said above the human mind is limited into knowing what it has to 'know' to function in everyday life. so in other words, your subconscious mind will pick a belief system for you even if you don't want to believe anything. so why not choose what you believe in consciously? as for me I choose to be a devout christian based on this logic. lol now i feel like im preaching to you, but its some messed up kind of preaching isn't it?
im on a role here, too bad i don't have any papers due about religion or philosophy this semester xD.
and if you read all that i would appreciate if you can find some logical fallacy in my logic, then i'd have to go soul searching again which is imo quite fun :P
Be raised in a Catholic family but be strongly atheist
