Not really. Socialism severely limits your choices in life. In return for services from the state, you must serve the state in the capacity they choose.
Information is severely limited in a socialist society because information is power and the state doesn't want the people to have any power.
There's plenty more, but just those few things would dissuade most of us from 'free' societies from desiring to live in a true socialistic society, I think.
