  • I'm responding to your comment about enforced celibacy followed by "That's the problem there." It's not enforced celibacy that's the problem, it's the predatory behavior of (overwhelmingly) male clergy, backed up by hierarchical religious organisations. The majority of child sexual abuse, like male violence against women, happens in families, but we were talking about religions, right?

    • Well if you don't think enforced celibacy is a problem, then that's where we do in fact disagree. I do think its a big problem. That's not the only problem though which sounds like what your saying. Your saying that other religious power structures can provide opportunities for leaders to exploit people and kids sexually even if celibacy isn't enforced?

      • People who join celibate orders choose that: I think most of them are deluded but that's their problem. Those who find out it's not for them can always leave, as of course very many do. One of the problems with the catholic church is that people make the decision to join celibate orders when they're often far too young to appreciate what that actually means and the entire celibacy thing is about sex being a bad thing. As for your last sentence, you got it, and I would've thought that was obvious.

ALL power structures create opportunities for those high up in the hierarchy to exploit others, that's why I'm an Anarchist.

        • Well you had me all fine and well until I scrolled down lol. Your an anarchist? I think that is pretty extreme. Have you seen how anarchist has worked in the past? No stable government has ever had that. If that's true than rape, murder theft ect would all be legal. If the country you lived in now you as an older female would almost certainly be dead by now.

          • Anarchism means NO RULERS, NOT NO RULES. Your ignorance is showing. Anarchism worked very efficiently in Spain before and during the Spanish Civil War, with entire areas (mainly in Catalonia) and factories organized along Anarchist lines. They were destroyed by the Communists and the entire war was lost to the Fascists.

            • Who enforces the rules then? Rules without enforcement don't do shit. Everyone isn't nice and considerate of others as much as I wish that's how it was. If people can get away with crime, crime levels will spike.

              • The people who make the rules, of course. Anarchism doesn't work in huge groups but it can work really well in small groups of likeminded people who respect each other.
