At what age did you first understand the meaning of song lyrics?

What was the first song you ever understood? (If one comes to mind.) I'm talking more about serious adult orientated songs, not nursery rhymes or lullabies.

For me it was the song "Seasons in the Sun" when I was probably eight or 9-ish.

  • I cannot listen to music without hearing the lyrics. To me, it is as important as the song, and I have a tendency to argue with it.

  • I still have to look them up

  • When I was about 6-10, my mom told me the meaning behind My Immortal, does that count?

  • I don't need to read lyrics to know what they mean in today's music.

"I've just met you, but some how I am in love with you", and stupid music like that. I think the music industry is more so going for the female state of mind nowadays, there is more music out that they would like.

  • I can't remember how old I was but there were two songs that really caught my attention. First one is Working Class Hero by John Lennon, the other one is The God That Failed by Metallica.

  • I don't listen to much music with "deep" meanings, nor did I ever.

  • I don't know, but that is a good question.

I am still discovering meanings to songs I have been listening to for the longest time :)

  • To be honest, I still don't. The majority of lyrics go over my head. As an example, I thought "Just" by Radiohead was about a suicidal girlfriend for the longest time, rather than about a child smoking.

The first song I remember understanding completely was "Roll On" by Sneaker Pimps, but it's not exactly hard to work out what naughty thing it's about, so I don't get any credit there.
