As for wanting to be a patient in a asylum, that's just silly. Just a bunch of broken people... It would be very depressing. Now, as far as wanting to experience insanity, I believe that is very natural. Personally, I think if you really want to understand the world you should be able to put yourself in the position to see it from the viewpoints of people with different mental capabilities, cultural values, ect. than yourself. However, the viewpoint of the very mentally ill wouldn't valuable insight into any aspect of life. At least you experiencing it personally. It would most likely offer you an experience of the devolution of your own level of consciousness. Perhaps, what it feels like to thing on a more simple, impulsive, emotional, animalistic level?
