Art or life?

Okay so I stole this from a movie. The movie is called Bullets over Broadway. But I thought it would make for an interesting is it normal question. It's really about the value of life vs the value of art.

Let's say there was a burning building and you could rush in and you could save only one thing: either the last known copy of Shakespeare's plays or some anonymous human being. What would you do?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Have the person grab the plays and you take them out would be the ideal situation but, I am not particularly good with people. If I was in the room with the plays, but was unawares of the existence of another human, I would take the plays with me. Why wouldn't this other human be able to get out too? Are they are a child who for some reason doesn't understand fires drills or, are they injured in some way?

  • If it was an unseen episode of 'The Walking Dead' maybe.

  • It'd depend on the person. If it was, say, a pregnant woman, then Life.

As opposed to, say, an 80 year old man, then Art.

  • Last known copy of Shakespeare's plays so I can sell it for millions on eBay

  • I'd save the person for a matter of principles, as much as I am one of Shakespeare's greatest appreciators. I would then summon every actor and director that has been/is involved in a Shakespeare production and recreate his plays, since most of them know the lines by heart.

Ah, let's not forget the movies that have been made.

    • Orson Welles made some great Shakespeare adaptations. Othello and Chimes at Midnight come to mind.

  • Is the human holding the copy? Wait. No, I don't think so. Ummm... Life, because you know the story of the play, but won't people die anyway and have a better life? I can't choose... Life, probably!

    • Yeah, I would say to ask the human to carry the plays while you save them. Problem solved, easy peasy.

            • Both:

You: Hey person! Grab those papers over there and I'll help you out of here!

              Person: *grabs copies*

You: Okay, let's go! *carries person out*

              Person: (WWHHHHEEEEEE!)

              None:

You: Oh, gosh! I have to save myself! Bye, people! *jumps out of the window*

Person: NO! Help! These copies are burning! *fire comes closer* And so will I! *burns to death*

        • A win-win would be just taking the person.... surely!!
