The IP would be elected from around the world, though. America is a VERY conservative country compared to most; the IP would also likely be a lot more libertarian since the average voting age would probably be lower because of the lower average age of internet enthusiasts.
As always in any government, there is a risk that the government will do something that the majority of citizens didn't want nor is the citizen's best interests, but that seems like a fairer risk to take than the one we have at the moment, where hugely conservative USA could effectively monopolise a global industry.
