I never join protests or boycotts. A few years back, there was a worldwide protest against GMOs. I thought about going, but I changed my mind. I was scared that it might get violent (some people don't seem to understand what "peaceful protest" means, and I didn't want to get arrested.
Those are my two main reasons for not protesting. Have of the time, when people protest, I wonder why. Some protests have initially been for good reasons, but then they end up becoming a mockery out of themselves. (Occupy Wall Street)
Perhaps, it is due to my differing political beliefs, but most of the time, I don't think it is worth it.
