In my country "United Kingdom" there is no "Good Samaritan" law. If you save someone from drowning and they die, despite your efforts, you are legally responsible for their death.
I'd step in to help the losing side, in a dangerous situation, no matter the odds (street fight, domestic fight, rape, fire, drowning, car crash, large animals and natural disasters.) Even if I die, so be it.
