Comparing yourself to other people isn't really ever going to make you happy.

What is an accurate definition of jealousy?
The one definition I came across in the dictionary is "an unhappy or angry feeling of wanting to have what someone else has." In moral stories jealousy is tied up with envy... which leads to greed and bad intentions towards others.

How strong is that jealousy? Will it make you happy if the person you're jealous of looses whatever they possess which makes you jealous of them?

I believe we shouldn't confuse jealousy with admiration or longing or even healthy competition - it's our natural mechanism to force us to adapt, thrive and improve ourselves. Jealousy, on the other hand, is dwelling on what you don't have, rather than being grateful for what you have. As a victim of jealousy and jealous persons alike, I can say that it leads to obsession, depression and anxiety, among other needless things, which can prevent you from realising your own unique potential and being truly happy.

basically i get jealous when i am attracted to someone extremely badly and think of them with other people. it is a longing for the person. i never get mad at the person who is with them. i am not upset at anyone. i just sometimes feel that life is not worth living. that was in the past. i have not had a crush on anyone in years thankfully, because i know i will not be with anyone ever.

People that seem to have it better than you are often more messed up than what they seem.

Typically if someone has "a lot", they are earning it or had to earn it. Sometimes people are handed stuff but there is always some kind of price to pay.

If you are jealous of others, it is probably best to avoid them.

As of right now, I'm jealous of the straight, easily combable hair my white friends have. Mines a Hispanic, thick, curly, rats nest that isn't easy to tame.

I use product. It's just annoying that I have to piss away extra money to make it manageable.

        • Sad to hear you're struggling that much. It's interesting how people with straight hair want curly hair and people with curly hair want straight hair.
In your case tho it's very understandable that you wish you had even manageable hair

When I was a kid I got jealous of other people's families if they were happy. Also if they had money/stability.

But as an adult I have made my own family that is happy and earnt good money so I no longer feel that way. I don't have enough free time to spend it thinking about other people's money/looks etc

  • No I don’t put my attention on what others have. If I want something I work hard to make it happen. There will always be someone better and someone worse at everything I don’t like putting myself in the middle to watch it happen.

  • I hate admitting it, but I’m jealous of people who have athletic ability. I was good at running in high school, I finished a 5k in 17:59 and was the first person to make states at our high school in almost 30 years. But at any other sport I’m awful, bottom of the barrel awful.

In some cases I wish I was as brilliant as a songwriter or as beautiful as an actress I admire.
