Even though I used the word "depressed", its clinical meaning is not what I was aiming for. I was responding to the tone of what the question was asking.
Unhappiness it the opposite of happiness, but depression is not. I was directing my reply to folks who are unhappy, not clinically depressed.
Honestly though, I feel that too many people are diagnosed as being depressed, when they're really just down on their luck and feeling sorry for themselves. (Not that all people are in this category)
