Are you glass half full or empty type?

When you find that your favorite restaurant has a good steak and seasoned fries, but they're out of apple pie, do you focus on how good it is that you can get the steak and fries, or do you just dwell on how they don't have the pie?

When you're at a club and you find out that 3 women/men (whether you're a man or woman) are interested in you, and you see that there's 4 others who won't give you the time of day, are you then spending your time being happy about the people who like you, or are you spending it bummed out about the 4 who don't?

When you're getting your paycheck at work and you see that you have enough money to buy a new laptop but you don't have enough to also buy a new cool pair of shoes, are you then happy about the laptop or are you bummed about the shoes?

Y'all check the spaces on whether you feel glass half full or glass half empty when you encounter situations like the 3 examples I listed.

Half empty 16
Half full 13

As a nihilist, the glass is a social construct.

But the glass is always full of fluid... air is a fluid. Unless it's in a vacuum... that wouldnt even work that would just fill the cup with water vapor.

Technically it depends on what you are doing to the glass that makes it full or empty, if you are filling the glass you call it half full. If you are emptying it its half empty.

      You'll enjoy this article: https://what-if.xkcd.com/6/

Written by an ex-physicist, now comic artist, that explores what would happen if they meant "half-empty" literally.

"Glass half empty, glass half full; well either way you wont be going thirsty. Count your blessings, not your flaws."

I love that song, it's so sweet. Anyway, I guess I'm a half-full person in most situations.

    • I will count my blessings, not my flaws. That is another good way of wording the glass is half full. I honestly feel sorry for all those skeptical negative people who look at everything as half empty. I'm definitely half full. I'm just curious on how some of the rest of y'all see things. That's good that you're half full also

Well, I'm not going to down those who are pessimistic, because even optimist have a bad day. I think we just sort of balance each other other out.

        • Right. It's hard to be 100℅ optimistic all the time. But I've known people who definitely go too far on the pessimistic side and always assume the worst about everything. Just gotta have the right balance

Half full glass, but sometimes I feel like a half empty glass.

  • I think I'm more a "glass half-full" type. However, I would consider myself a realist, not an optimist.

There's no need to be very negative, but I like to acknowledge things for what they are and take it from there.

    • Right, that's understandable, as long as you can recognize both the good and the bad, and it seems like from what you're saying, that you do. Not everyone does though.

Realism and pessimism don't always automatically go hand in hand. Alot of seriously big pessimist people like to say "I'm just being real", but they are sometimes really crossing over into pessimism. Not everything that's real is horrible and hopeless

      • Sometimes it really can be a matter of perspective. You can choose how you approach a situation.

    • I was just thinking up examples. Apple pie, like many other foods are good or bad depending on what you're getting, you can get great pie, you can get a nasty ol stale flavorless pie. You can get a deliciously awesome pizza, and you can get a nasty ass gross pizza

How does this philosophy work when the glass is half full of piss? Or as an optimist might say, half empty.

Well I like pee so half full woth a smile

    • Yeah, lol, when it's piss, the less in the glass, the better. I remember when back in highschool, I hung out with my buddies who would piss into cups and then drive by the house of someone from school they totally hated and if we saw them, throw the piss out the window at them and drive away, lol. One time when it was night and couldn't completely see, we think we threw the piss on the kid's dad instead of him. Shit, we had some fun times.

I try to be a half full guy, and usually I am. But long enough without kinky sex and we might be hearing a different story. Usually its fine though, and everyone should strive to feel half full.
