      Don't you have adult children? You can be estranged if you don't maintain contact with them.

        As I was always off somewhere exploring the world, we were separated more than estranged. But we we never a close family. I never met any uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc.
        Dad lived to 93, so he only passed a few years back, but I hadn't seen him in 6 or 7 years.

    I haven't seen my father in about 12 years. Not because of a fight since I was little he gradually came around less and less, I don't even know where he lives.
    I don't hate him but he won't get any parent awards.

    I guess my family isn't fucked up. I consider myself lucky. I don't see my parents often. Usually once a year now.

    Cut ties from my father. Unfortunately, it meant losing my step mother and half sister. But I couldn't have him in my life.
