Are you an alcoholic if you convince yourself it's worse than it really is?

If, let's say, you drink twice a month.... are you really qualified to go to an AA meeting? Everyone thinks I'm an alcoholic because because I didn't want to drink for a year. In their minds, do they think I drink every day?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Have these twice a month drinking sessions caused you any problems? Have you ever been close to alcohol poisoning or otherwise endangered yourself while under the influence? Do you throw up while drunk? Given what you describe, it sounds as though there's a real possibility that you actually don't have a drinking problem. If you can relate to any of the problems I described, then you're not an alcoholic exactly but someone who simply can't handle any alcohol at all.... which is fine and yes AA may be right for you.

You actually are a pussy but that's ok. Save yourself while you can. You will notice when you get to be a heavy drinker. No doubt.

They probably think you drink daily but who cares what other people think.

And yes, anyone can go to an AA meeting for whatever reason they want. Sure there are so called "closed" meetings but no one checks references.

Whether you feel like you have a problem or not is your decision. If you are worried about what people think, it may be best to ask them directly. If you think you may have a problem then I would recommend seeking treatment.
