I'm kind of very late to this but I'll comment anyway.
I'm not actually vegetarian but I have considered it for a reason not mentioned here.
It makes sense if we want to grow as a species. What I mean is that plants only take in about 2% of sunlight's usable energy. After that, the next consumer uses about 20% of the energy in the plant, followed by 20% of that for the next consumer.
So, if we want to be able to sustain a large population, it makes much more sense to forgo the meat and settle for another source of protein.
