I've worked in the restaurant industry and most waitress(ers) hate the customers, they just do it for the money. Some people manage to do it for a very long time, but usually, it has very little to do with liking the job.
Money isn't everything though. Dunno if it would be any better, but have you thought of working in a bar? I think they make decent tips to and it might be better or might be worst but might be worth a shot.
