Are "watch me clean" and "do laundry with me" videos a thing now?

Two different people I know have YouTube channels centered around sped up videos of them picking up trash off the floor, wiping things down, vacuuming, and folding laundry. One has nearly 1k subscribers just doing this with the odd makeup tutorial or video talking about her being a stay-at-home wife thrown in. Is this actually a thing now?

I think it gives people a feeling of satisfaction...while they're still sitting in their own mess?

I'll fess up to watching organisation videos for ideas...and getting less done than I should...but I can't fathom watching someone just...clean their house or do their laundry. Why?

As for *making* the videos...it just seems like everyone nowadays wants to br a youtuber cos it probably seems like easy fame and money? Idk. People are weird.

They're geniuses and I wish I'd thought of it first. I would love to make money off idiots who enjoy sitting around watching videos of me cleaning.

Last year, I uploaded a video of me working on my old E24, I was replacing the head gasket. Took the video down after 3 weeks.

Too much nonsense from internet experts telling me what I did wrong and what I should do next to my car (LS swap, hellaflush, NOS, turn it into a mad max car, or other BS) and insults from children, telling me my video is "fake and gay n00b".

Seriously, how does a fortnite-crazed 9 year old end up on a video about fixing an old BMW?!

        YouTube is a weird place.

I was looking at reviews of video baby monitors a few years ago and some of the comments were from children swearing and calling other commenters peedos. Fuck knows how a kid ends up looking a reviews for baby products...

I don't get it. In my opinion this type of video appeals to people who have very boring lives of their own and who are addicted to their screens. Even in lockdown there are more interesting things to do than vicarious housework and laundry!

Naked housecleaning videos are a good way to accommodate your boredom. They are more interesting than staring at the wall.

If they are naked it is normal

    • Both were also formerly involved in MLMs, so I think their MO is to do as little as they possibly can to make money, even if it's just peanuts.

    No, they aren’t a thing.

I can understand people making those videos if it helps motivate them to clean regularly. Adds a little extra incentive when you have a whole audience of people who need their weekly fix of watching you do it
