Not really. A little bit of training and they'll only bark when appropriate, bite who you want them to, and shit in a specific corner of the garden.
Some breeds will, however, constantly crave your attention and do whatever it takes to get you to play with them.

Cats definitely. I hate dogs. Dogs are loud, they bite, they smell bad, they need to be taken care of all the time, and they make a hell of mess.
