My girlfriend's has custody of her younger brother who's 9 because their dad has gone and her mom died. She's really strict with him though and she has some really harsh punishments. Like the other day he swore at her so she put a bar of soap in his mouth to "clean it out". She also spanks him on the bare quite hard because she says if it wasn't hard he wouldn't learn. She is very loving and maternal towards him and he adores her but her methods just seem really strict to me but my parents were very liberal.

    she needs a brush or paddle to get though also tell her she is not spanking often enough

    My mom washed my mouth out with soap and strapped my bottom regularly until I was 15 (and even some times after that). It's not abnormal, it's just not as socially acceptable as it used to be but trust me, it's good discipline.

    unless I see actual abuse, I keep my nose out of other peoples business when it comes to their kids.

    Shes prob trying to be a perfect parent. Soap is alil harsh, but my mom used to do that. And spanking is completly normal and works.

    The soap thing is a little off I always thought, plus it's actually not good for him it could ruin his taste buds. But the spanking is 100% normal and in my opinion the only right way. I'm not down for just tearin a kid up for any reason or anything but I think th whole "give my kid a good stern talkin to" parenting is why you have shows like super nanny. Try watchin just a few episodes...none of the parents ever just grab the kids and spank em...it's all time outs and take the toys away for a day. Psh ok we'll see how that turns out!
