Are there any actual moderators on this site?
I ask because the one account I found that seems to be official has not posted anything in over a year.

That's Udi. He made the site. He hires others to moderate.
He introduced IIN Gold to increase funding for moderation...and that clearly never happened.
He's now added an ad that can be seen after sign in on the desktop site. I'll bet you anything that won't be spent on anything to improve the site.
He's a liar and a thief.

"Ads are never supposed to show up on IIN if you're signed in".
I like the fact that the moderators here don't micromanage the posts or comments, unlike some similar sites. On some other sites, I've had legitimate questions get struck down or directed to irrelevant audiences; they cherrypick what can get asked. I would rather have more freedom and the downsides that can come with that than the other way around. Often -- not always -- other members tend to keep things in check when someone is out of line here, rather than moderators having to get involved.
Gold doesn't make you a moderator - it supposedly gives you a say in the moderation process because you can view the moderated list and vote if a story or poll should be let through or not - but the final decision lies with the moderator, who appears to be highly incompetent, drunk or both. Or perhaps just a cunt.
Deleting posts does seem to be based on how many people (and what karma these people hold) report a post - however that decision can be reversed by the moderator, and certain keywords get you "auto-modded".
As far as I can tell, banning accounts seems to be done manually by the moderator or Udi. I base this on what he has told me. He basically says he doesn't have time for "headaches" from people here.
I mean, it's not like he provides a service people pay monry for, or anything...or that he's set himself up for failure by being incompetent and lazy...
As an observation of general interest, I have noticed a change with respect to karma. It now seems that there are two karma parameters. The old overall karma, and a new separate parameter that regulates "thumbs down". Most people use "thumbs down" sparingly as they should. But, if you thumb down rapid fire, the separate thumbs down parameter will stop you even though your overall karma will not change.
Thank you, Udi, for making this change.
