Are probiotics worth the praise? share your experience

So I’m trying to understand more about the recent increase interest in gut health by both my research, trying it for myself, and what others have experienced while taking probiotics.

Have you had any dramatic changes in your using probiotics? I’ve experienced less IBS symptoms but have had better results with the medicine my doctor prescribed.

Your gut contains 10's of thousands of different strains of bacteria. Taking a drink or tablet that contains 5 strains, for arguments sake, will have little to no impact on overall health. You will lose weight, just only from your wallet. Just like vitamin supplements, if you aren't diagnosed as needing them, then you're just increasing the cost of your urine whenever you need to pee.

I did not know there was a probiotic trend.

I discovered about probiotics a few years ago because I was battling with a yeast infection that I just couldn't get rid of. So I took the normal treatment and accompanied with probiotics (a one month cure) and guess what? No more infection till now. So I occasionally buy probiotics that I take every two days.

Yes it is interesting, the topic of 'The Probiotics Trend' came up on my feed. I suggest viewing it on Medscape. I didn't read the full article, but a few points were made clear - there isn't enough research being conducted on the potential harms that probiotics cause, nor has its safety been accurately determined.
Furthermore, recent studies have shown that the same Probiotic is not suitable for everyone. So not everyone will have the same results after taking it - one major reason being the differences in our gut biomes.

It's working for you, which sounds good. Discuss this with your doctor as well, I wonder if you can take both the probiotic and your prescribed medicine, unless there may be a drug interaction.

Yes but a lot of the commercially avalable ones aren't good and the good ones tend to be expensive. You can just make your own kimchi and/or kombucha quite easily and they are full of those good bacterias.

  • I think when I tried it it made me cramp up super hard I just remember it having this instant issue it didn’t set well with me. It did help my moms ibs but after a while it stopped being a help which is with a lot of med cases for both of us. I’ve kind of given up because so much I try makes me worse while on it and never helps. But now I’m curious what’s helped yours? Besides the probiotics.
