They are more educational than anything. We cant pretend killers do not exist, we cant pretend rapists do not exist and we cant pretend pedos do not exist. They are here and we need to understand them.
When you understand your enemy you can prepare for your enemy. If you do not know your enemy they will defeat you. I think most horror movies are either 1.to send a message 2.educational. When its on a real event it can make us aware of these events. We can learn from these events and we can try to understand what was wrong with these people.
Some of these movies like "paranorman" and "Silent hill" are meant to send a message. People reject those they do not understand. Simply being different does not always make you a monster. The only real monsters are those who would kill the Innocent. I have written a lot of horror fiction in my life time and the stories always have a message.
