When I say killers, I don't mean like Jason, or Jigsaw,
but real ones, serials killers, or shooters.
Of course, there have been many films inspired by them,
such as Monster, Henry:Protrait Of A Serail Killer, Dahmer, etc.
I enjoy these kinds of films, but I have heard people say that people shouldn't glorify serial killers by making movies based off them.
What do you think?
heh, i love discovery ID, but i think that the documentaries and films OP is talking about do give some people ideas that they otherwise wouldn't have on their own. also the news has great influence. take school shootings for instance, it's not a common crime anywhere else in the world, it's a very american thing. see, i'm not saying it doesn't happen elsewhere, but if you look up statistics you'll find there have been 50+ shootings in america as opposed to almost 20 in other countries combined. i think seeing that it has been done does influence people to act on their rage or whatever their motives and feelings are
Yes, that is how I feel about it. I read and watch stuff about serial killers, and it has taught me many interesting things and facts. It's made me more aware about people around me, and hitchhiking is a bad idea,
as is meeting strangers off the internet, but everyone should know that.
It depends on the way the killer is portrayed in the movie. If they're portrayed in a way which is supposed to provoke empathy from the audience, it's glorifying the killer. True crime documentaries tend to condemn serial killers more than movies about the killer's lives.
They are more educational than anything. We cant pretend killers do not exist, we cant pretend rapists do not exist and we cant pretend pedos do not exist. They are here and we need to understand them.
When you understand your enemy you can prepare for your enemy. If you do not know your enemy they will defeat you. I think most horror movies are either 1.to send a message 2.educational. When its on a real event it can make us aware of these events. We can learn from these events and we can try to understand what was wrong with these people.
Some of these movies like "paranorman" and "Silent hill" are meant to send a message. People reject those they do not understand. Simply being different does not always make you a monster. The only real monsters are those who would kill the Innocent. I have written a lot of horror fiction in my life time and the stories always have a message.
