Are holocaust deniers evil people?

I've talked to many people who deny the holocaust, and to be honest, they didn't sound antisemitic. They just stated the reasons why they do not believe in the holocaust.

No, they're just confused 33
Yes, they certainly are 18

For lots of them, it's part of the conspiracy mindset: if someone in authority says something is true or something is generally accepted as fact, then it cannot be so. Lots of them believe that unless they've actually witnessed something, it simply isn't true. (Thus the flat-earthers who are convinced Earth can't be a sphere because they don't see a curve on the horizon.)

There's an interesting article about research into psychological traits common to conspiracy-believers here:

    https://www.livescience.com/63658-why-people-believe-conspiracy-theories.html

The most common factors are a tendency to be untrusting, ideologically eccentric, and prone to having unusual perceptual experiences (e.g., sensing stimuli that are not actually present). Lots of conspiracy nuts also have a strong need to feel unique: all the rest of us are just blind sheeple, but they see the world as it truly is.

I think some of these people also find such beliefs comforting: they don't really bear any responsibility for the problems in their lives because it's all the fault of the Jews, black people, stupid liberal snowflakes or some other group they want to blame. It can't really be true that a weird kid can walk into an elementary school and slaughter twenty small children and six teachers, so it must have been faked by mysterious hidden forces in their pursuit of some evil goal. If a government can systematically kill seventeen million people that means it's possible you could one day become a victim of a government gone insane, so it's comforting to believe it's all just fake.

I saw a holocaust survivor talking about his experiences on a school trip once. He sounded real to me.

If the holocaust was fake, why are there so many pictures of hundreds of starved people in striped prison clothes crammed into barracks, and of the same people in labs having horrible things done to them? What lengths would a 1940s photographer have to go to, to stage photos like that? How, in the 1940s, could you give such a huge mass of people in striped prison clothes that skeleton-like appearance, unless you actually clothed them in striped prison clothes and starved them? There was no photoshop in those days...

And piles of teeth, bundles of hair, human flesh tanned like leather for lampshades, official Nazi documentation, etc...
I think deniers are just plain ignorant.

What is the difference between holohoax and a cow?

Answer: the jews can't milk a cow for 75 years straight.

I lived with a conspiracy theorist once. He was just a contrarian. I came to view it as a form of narcissism, the whole idea that you’re privy to information other people are too dumb or “sheeplike” to follow. It’s often a superiority act.
I’m not dismissing the existence of conspiracies or alternatives to popular truths, the world is a complicated, corrupt place. I’m only talking when it’s taken to the extreme and becomes this stubborn, excessive, illogical thing.

Some are evil, ie the Nazi ones; some are too lazy or stupid to check the facts and some are just plain stupid.

No they are on the same level as flat earthers... they are just really really stupid.

Not evil. Ignorant perhaps, but not evil. Its probably because they want to belive it didn't happen, so they justify it to themselves.

So I guess all the eye witness survivors who saw Jews and gypsies and gay people herded into gas chambers and later dragged out dead were/are lying or delusional? Only a few SS officers were needed to drop the Zyklon B in, the ordinary guards would've been elsewhere.

I've seen countless doco's which show the actual chambers at Auschwitz: where have you been?

Look into this guy. He has films of tours through Auschwitz where he explains why it was impossible to gas people there. If you have a counter argument to his claims id listen with an open mind. Im more of a show me your evidence kinda dude. I dont care either way

The US imprisioned japanese in similar camps.

Saying World war II was about exterminating jewish people is like saying the civil war was about slavery. Don't believe history.

BTW I think killing jewish people is bad.

The people in the pictures don't look Japanese...
Also, few averagely educated people would pretend that the war was just about killing Jews...

The greatest lie the Devil ever told was getting people to believe that he doesn't exist! Holocaust deniers are idiots at best, and evil bigots at worst!

You can't really answer this question as it implies there is only 1 answer possible. That you must be confused if are critical of some aspect of the holocaust, or that you're evil.

I don't think it's anything to do with evil, at it's root. People can believe whatever evidence they want to - some evidence is more credible than other evidence but ultimately it is up to the individual what conclusions they draw.

I think it's more likely to be anti-authority/counterculture type of thinking. Any shocking event in history has a conspiracy culture surrounding it. I bet some of the conspiracy theories are correct, but not many.
