I can understand why it was misconstrued as aggressive, and explained that it was not intended to be construed in such a manner. I was simply suggesting that her insults towards the man are somewhat harsh.
I did understand her reply. It was clearly written in an offended manner, though my reply was not intended to offend; I explained that it was not intended to offended.
