Are bronies a joke?

So, some years ago when I first heard of My Little Pony fans I thought it was a joke.
Today I was on Youtube and I ran into this weird video, all about bronies, and, I couldn't believe this was happening!! It's just insane! It makes no sense!! It really must be a joke. Tell me it's a joke. I mean, I don't wanna be all judgemental and evil but, oh shouldn't they get a life? It's so not normal. What the heck do they see on these videos?

They're real 44
They're real, I am 28
It's a joke 12
I dont know 23
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Yes I'm real and no, I don't need a life because I already have one. Just because I like the show doesn't mean I don't do anything else.

    • Could you please explain to me why do you watch it? I genuinely don't get it, and believe me I've tried to understand but I just can't find any reason.

Well when I first heard about it I thought it would be boring but after watching the first episode I realized I was so wrong.
        - it has really great characters that cheer you up, all of them are unique and all of them have their qualities and bad traits (they have pony version of Jesus seriously what else do you want)
        - some of the songs are very catchy
        - it makes a lot of pop culture references (Doctor Who, Indiana Jones, Star Wars)
        - the story, although kinda childish is interesting and it gives you good life lessons
        - the whole fandom is full of nice, kind people who help each other
        - it's hilarious
        - the art is amazing
        And I think that's it.

        • Woah I don't really know what to reply. I don't think the art is amazing or a Jesus pony is cool, I find it kind of pathetic really.
The pop culture references and the fact of being part of a group are the only ones I agree; but why don't you guys just join a group but about something else. Like the same people creating a new thingie. I bet you guys like some other stuff that you'd be proud of .. enough to tell your parents at least.

Why do you need to be proud of liking something? Why can't you just do something because you enjoy it? Also MLP fandom is really small part of all the fandoms I'm in.

            • Well, I mean, If you like something, You should able to tell everybody about it. It wouldn't be nice if I liked something that I can't show anybody because I'd be embarrassed by it. Do your friends in real life and parents know about this?

I was skeptical at first. I had pony toys when I was young,(I'm a girl) and new cartoons nowadays just sucked, but for some reason the animation caught my eye from a video clip my friend sent me (I'm an animator as well) and so I decided to watch an episode to see what it was all about. It wasn't bad, so I kept watching, and watching and got hooked.
The animation is very superb, it's got excellent timing, and great detail. They put a LOT of thought into the characters- from their designs to their personalities. It has consistency, references, catchy songs, and just has a wholesome feel. Plus it's got lots of mythology influence (manticores, dragons, griffons, phoenixes, cockatrice, and so forth). Plus they make lots of adult jokes (Big Lebowski Reference, saying Appletini and the punch has been spiked)
and it's psychologically fun. (the symbolism is amazing)
Bronies are bronies because they watch the show and enjoy it. It's just a fandom. Being a fan doesn't mean you don't have a life, it just means you enjoy something. The brony community aren't weird, they're actually very nice people who do amazing art & music, and have fun with what they like. To say "bronies don't have a life, bronies are this and that" is rather close-minded. :)
You could, say, watch a few episodes and decide for yourself.

    • maybe you have but you don't know? i mean, i guess they don't go saying i'm a bronie, do they? I mean, I dont think they're exactly proud to be one, I'd say they would keep it as a secret... wouldn't they? Uh i find it so weird.

I started watching a few episodes to do some research for memes. It's like they threw drugs into the show or something like that.

I and a few people I know enjoy it a lot. Fluttershy's my favorite. The show is creative, it can be funny, has good morals to teach, and even has some nice musical pieces. There is also tons of really well done fan-art, music, and other media, both original and show-based. There's plenty of reasons, but I guess that makes a super short list.

No one who I work with or in my family currently know I watch it, though. A significant number of people are kind of closeted about it. It's not that I'm super ashamed of it, but I don't feel like having other people jump to conclusions, so I don't even bring it up. If I happened to find another at work who likes it or something, I'd gladly discuss it with them.

    • between 4.0% and 6.8% of the internet-using US population strongly identify as bronies

      That's a lot :o
I have a question, do bronies tend to be gay? Or that's not related?

Not at all... it's not like the furry community where about 70%+ are either gay or bi^^

I suppose bronies are just as straight as average =P

Err, I don't know. As for myself, I'm straight. I know 2 other dudes, one in high school, and one who is 22, who are also straight and watch it.
