I think all classes are necessary but schools go about it the wrong way.
I'm looking at you, mathematics!
When I was in school, we got taught a different style of maths. It was basically four different maths (decimal, binary, hexadecimal and some other one I can't remember now). After we were taught those, normal trigonometry and algebra was a breeze.
Art isn't a hobby. It develops a different area of your brain. The two sides of the brain should both be stimulated equally. It would suck if everybody were only having their logic focussed and neglected the creative aspect of their brain.

I a agree with the art aspect. Creativity helps with learning and solving problems in a new way.
