Appropriate punishment for my son drawing badly

He draws clouds behind the sun, moon, stars, etc. I told him that's not right and he needs to fix it but he can't get it right. What is the best way to discipline him? He usually gets time out in our walk-in closet.

Don't discipline for that. He is just going abstract with his art. Don't stifle his imagination. No one remembers the documentary film makers or court artists. We remember the Picassos and Dalis. Let him be creatively free. As a parent there are plenty of situations where behavior modification will matter, this isn't one of them.

You don't say how old he is but regardless of his age LEAVE THE KID ALONE!

I do hope you're trolling; if not you're a control freak of a parent and when you son is older you'll wonder why he rebels, pisses off from home and doesn't want anything to do with youl

Don't punish him for drawing, no kid will be perfect. Being a kid is about being creative so let him do it

  • Kids are creative lil shits they learn as they go they create something and improve with time. It’s not appropriate to punish a kid for a drawing. Drawing free minded is important I used to be able to now I need a image to go by and if someone told me I’m not good enough at it, it would of made me stop a lot sooner and feel I was never good enough. You should rather tell them how great it is and encourage them to continue because along with that comes more drawings and improvements rather than make them feel they can’t do something and take that ability away. You’re to much of a perfectionist I bet you can’t even draw yourself I actually hope this is a troll post like it seems cause you sound like a bitch who shouldn’t of had a kid or someone trying to troll on something stupid that doesn’t make sense.

You have some issues.it's just drawing, not everyone's perfect at it. I suggest you get help.

None. Who cares how he draws.

Well if he's still not learning then your discipline clearly isn't working. I think the problem is with the leniency of this "walk in closet". It seems to me that you should put a lock on the outside of the closet, and next time he's bad lock him in there over night.

Tell him that if he doesn't paint the way you want he will be as stupid as his mommy. That will scare him

If art is such a vital part of your enjoyment of life, perhaps you could have your son sit next to you while you create your drawings, and talk through your thought processes and artistic judgements as you draw.

Or you could just fuck off back under your bridge.

I lol'd. I'm pretty sure this isn't serious and even if it was, the comments are pretty funny in their reactions.

I'm pretty sure I drew a cloud behind the sun/moon when I was little at least once or twice. I have no idea why. I wasn't an idiot, I knew how far away the moon and sun were, but it was like the one I was drawing was a completely different one that didn't have to obey the rules of reality.

My brother is an asshole to his son because he is not athletically enclined, but very artistic. He negatively punshies my nephew for being born with different skill sets. Dont be an asshat like my brother. Appreciate that your kid can do anything (good) at all.

Leave that kid alone. Let him become his own entity. He will be productive in another area. WTF is wrong with you ?

Any punishment will make him resent you for the rest of his life.

    • This suddenly reminds me of the time my dad angrily offered to send me away from home for staying up and watching a TV show at night.

Anyway, OP is being overly harsh. At least let the kid have creative freedom in drawing.

He'll change and improve when he's ready, but if he has OP's hot breath going down his neck all the time, he may come to associate drawing with negativity, and want to quit.

That would indeed be a profound piece of performance art, making us all think how, while we believe we're in control of our destinies, we're actually just children trapped in the glossy products of our consumerist culture, while the powerful engines of ever-advancing technology propel us ever-faster towards catastrophic disaster and our ultimate doom.

Good plan. Why not go when the roads dry off? If your cat comes, it will be more complicated. He may need a few hours of road acclimation before the trip. Be sure you have a pet carrier and a litter box with you.

Really, what's in South Dakota? Are you going to see Mount Rushmore, or Something?

I wish I could go to Florida, Louisiana, or Texas. Well, I would also like to checkout Tennessee. Honestly, since Winter is on it's way I would probably choose Tennessee. Sometimes I also want to go to Birmingham, Alabama too.
