Have you ever been attacked by a medium sized dog? Coyotes have only been cited in one fatal attack in 1981 Kelly Keen, a child. But, coyotes are know to hunt in pairs and have been seen in packs.
The OP chased a scared animal into the woods at night. Chasing any wild animal is dangerous. Chasing one into the woods at night is stupid. Scared wild animals will turn and attack people. Also rabid animals are even more aggressive.
Just do an internet search and you will see that plenty of people have been attack by these canines who "can't do shit"
I'm sure the people who were attacked care. Have you ever been attacked by a dog? You never answered. Coyotes are the same average size and weight as a pit bull terrier. Obviously another harmless canine.

One fatality. There have been many attacks.
Yes, I have been attacked by a dog. It was hard to fight when my six year old head was in it's mouth, then it shook me like a rag doll.
