I'm on a few meds right now. I hate the fact that I have had to resort to taking them but it seems I am going to need medical treatment forever. Many of my health issues are untreated. I take fish oils and vitamins as well.
Currently I am on
Zyperxa-antipsychotic
Lithium-antimanic
Duloxitine-antidepressant
Modafinil-stimulant
I also use a breathing machine for sleeping which isn't really a medicine.
The psych meds are working pretty well but I have some physical problems too that aren't being treated because it is such a pain in the ass to find adequate medical services.
Things I should probably be on are meds for high cholesterol, acid reflux, tremors and arthritis.
I take occasional allergy meds as well when they cause a problem. Some of my health is untreatable as well.
If anyone would like to trade some genes let me know.
Sorry to hear about all the health issues :( they make mine seem so small and insignificant. My uncle takes Zyprexa for his schizophrenia, along with a whole other plethora of medications. Currently I'm taking some hardcore antihistamines at night before bed to prevent itching due to hayfever and allergies. These meds knock you the fuck out, which is great because I have trouble sleeping, a problem made worse by the next medication I'm about to mention. Prednisone. Its a corticosteroid, an immunosupressent to be exact. Not sure if you've heard of it, but its aparantly the devil. It supresses your immune system to prevent inflammation, and it works like a goddamn bomb. I use it for chronic eczema, a really itchy and painful and completely incurable skin condition. I'm meant to be using high doses in short courses but I end up using it every other week with a few days break inbetween courses because the eczema comes right back and burns so bad I lose even more sleep than usual. The long term effects of this medication, are scary as fuck. They include necrosis ( death of bone) of the femor bone in particular, thinning of the skin, and a whole bunch of other scary shit. These are supposed to occur after decades of use but I'm only 19 so, I'll be feeling those before middle age if I'm unlucky. And sure, I would trade genes with someone anyday if it meant giving up the gene that causes me to break out in itchy burny inflamed patches of skin for absolutely no known reason.
A lot of meds have side effects worse than the condition they treat. I've been concerned about them myself. I get itching too but I don't think its eczema because my skin doesn't peel. My uncle had really bad eczema and went to the black sea several times trying to get it treated. I think my itching might be a side effect from one of my meds. Necrosis sounds pretty bad. I'm 30 now and when I was 19 my health wasn't as bad yet but my joints have worn down since then and other symptoms have developed. Aging does that. I think all my health issues have a single genetic cause that hasn't been correctly diagnosed. Hopefully you will find better medical treatment than I did.
The thing is, cortisone is literally the only thing that gives me relief from my eczema. The side effects are scary, but not scary enough to live with skin that feels like its on fire. I live in SA and the healthcare system here isn't exactly great. If you can afford medical aid, super. If not, you're fucked. A state hospital, as in a free hospital, has a waiting list longer than you can imagine. Also, they don't have any better treatments for eczema than corticosteroids. Unfortunate as it is, steroids are most effective at treating eczema and easing the symptoms. I don't have medical so this is my last resort. Sorry to hear about the unpleasent side effects. My uncle has many unpleasent side effects from all the psychological medication he's on.
I remember when my uncle was visiting the Black Sea his mission was to get some special salts from there. He also would bathe in the Sea while he was there. I don't know if it really worked for him that well but if you look up Black Sea salts for eczema you may find some more information and I would imagine you can order it.
His eczema was life long and he never got it all the way treated, but when he got cancer he started eating really healthy and taking all kinds of vitamins. He had an unusual diet including eating a habanero pepper every day and eating unusual fruits.
His diet didn't seem to help his cancer but he said for once in his life his eczema went away and he believed it was due to his diet.
I've tried all the natural remedies for eczema and sadly, I think my eczema has advanced past the point where anything natural will ever be able to help. When I was diagnosed, the doctors had me cut out dairy to see if it might have been a food allergy, but aparantly not, just my immune system that reacts to basically nothing and makes my skin all inflamed. I do believe that if I ate healthier I might have more luck controlling my eczema, but at this point in my life it is both way too difficult and way too expensive for me to buy special foods for me for my eczema. I try to stay generally healthy. I drink atleast 750ml of water everyday, and I don't smoke, drink or use any substances besides the medications I have to use. I've never even done drugs. I love my food though, meat and dairy especially and I think I would be absolutely miserable without it.
Anyone on here on chronic meds?
