Annoying when people label you as only one part of your heritage?

It really annoys me!
I'm mixed race: 50% 'white', 35.7% 'black' and 12.5% Indian, yet people always label me as 'black'.

I don't have an issue with my heritage, I just feel that 'black' is not an accurate representation of my race! I am, technically, mainly 'white', but if I called myself that, people would correct me and find it offensive.

Just wondered what people's thoughts were and if they had the same views?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Right. Let's bring back the term 'colored'. Much easier.

    • I don't think that's accurate either, as 'white' people, as with all races of people, come in different 'shades' or colours, so technically everyone could be deemed 'coloured'.

      • I think it means, white people are plain like a sheet of paper, and anyhting beyond that, regardless of shade, is 'colored'.

  • Does it really matter?

  • I'm a salad of racial heritage, but I only identify with the cat.

  • No. People shouldn't label eachother as any part of any race. I'm a person, I am not defined by my ancestors.

  • You actually did the math to come up with exact percentages of what races you are? That is a little obsessive.

    • It's not that bad! I knew the fractions since I was about 6, so I just turned it into percentages!

Everything looks more official in percentages...

      • Just say it in fractions next time, it makes you look less nerdy :P

Lol I guess your name says it all though... Combination of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and ACDC the band?

  • What do you put down on a job application? If you put down Black for the Affirmative Action benefits or for the College hand outs then your Black.

    • We don't have those in the UK, or I've never come across them...

But on forms I put 'Mixed: Other', I never tick just 'black' or 'white'.

      • In the U.S we have a thing called Affirmative Action or AA for short. If a White and a Black apply for the same job, and if they are equally qualified the Black automatically gets the job. OR if a White and a Black apply for the same job and the White is MORE qualified the employer would hire the Black regardless to meet their quota.

Pretty much Blacks get hired over Whites even if they don't meet the requirements, and knowing this majority of half White/Blacks put down Black to get their foot in the door. Yeah it's not right and is reverse discrimination but the Libtards want to coddle Minorities that have an average I.Q of 85, and are a complete burden on Society.

        • I don't think any discrimination is right, but I dispute that minorities are a 'burden on society' and have low IQs.

The IQ test is pretty outdated and inaccurate anyway.

  • this has only happened once, and somebody referred to me as a black person, i'm only 1/4 black and i don't even look it, and it did annoy me. most people don't even know what race i am because i've mixed with so many races

  • Jewish hate sucks, I've had quite a few bad one before. If nobody really knows me or pays attention the heat is off me.

  • It's stupid. How's anyone supposed to know what exact mix you are? A white person could say the same EXACT thing....I'm not white, I'm German, Irish and English....and a little bit French....So? WHo should or would know that about me?? I wouldn't expect anyone to besides my immediate family. Get over it.

    • No one would know exactly, however it is obvious that I am a mix of races, so I'm more objecting to being called 'black', when it's perfectly acceptable, and more accurate, to call me 'mixed race'.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Meh, get over it. Do you expect everyone you meet to ask exactly what mix you are?

    • I don't expect them to ask exactly. It just seems like people see anyone who is darker skinned and labels them 'black' regardless of the fact that it is obvious I am mixed race.

  • I'm 1/3 asian. I don't like when people call me asian, I look more white than asian. I hate that just because i'm part asian, every one considers me just asian. i'm white...

  • Yep. I'm white but people keep calling me brown. I have a very small percent of Turkish in me but I guess it shows.

But hey at least you have affirmative action on your side
