Gross. And not because you voted Republican, but because you voted the same way down the ticket. For bigger positions like president, senator, congressman, or governor it's necessary to bite the bullet and vote by party. The more local the election, the more worthwhile it is to do research on individual candidates rather than just tow the party line
Which, after I think about it, maybe you did
I'm a pretty firm believer that liberal politics work and serve the most people when implemented on local levels--city, county, and sometimes state
I agree with a lot of the policies and local-level politics have a much better understanding of the needs of the people, rather than coming up with some one-size-fits-none federal plan that consists of throwing money at a problem and accomplishing exactly nothing. It's when you try to take those policies and apply them nationwide without regard or consideration for individual communities' needs that you end up with clusterfucks like the current administration
Republican politicians on the federal level are a waste of time. However, the only reason why they're preferable over Democratic politicians on the federal level is that, With the exception of dragging us into decades-long pointless wars, they generally do less damage to the country than their Democrat counterparts who worship racially-motivated riots, irreversibly altering the biology of impressionable children, grossly exaggerated or outright fabricated societal problems (e.g. the "wage gap" that has been dubunked a million times over), and who pretend as though inflation isn't fucking everything over right now
What prevents the party from becoming radical? How does it self regulate into moderation?
I mean sure two parties are inefficient and theres infighting all the time. But the two parties encourage being moderate to get the center vote.
That's the exact reason why its predicted to be a red wave here. People wanted kitchen table issues solved. They got more political BS. So you have the option for voting for the opposite party. Where it's in the parties best intrest to keep their center voters happy via being moderate while providing some positions to their core political base.
Kinda had to. Sure there were some Libertarians in the line up but they were either single issue libertarians or were too close to the republican party to warrant diluting the vote in their favor. For the state of affairs in my state we really need some Republicans back into the mix right now. If stakes were a bit more chill then sure.
Reason why libertarians dont win is either A they are single issue, legalize weed or whatever pressing populace position they have. Or they are already so close to another party you may as well just join the major party.
Sure shit if there was a Libertarians sheriff or mayor on the ticket I would vote for them.
That's why a third party really cant get started. They arent different enough from the two parties to justify for voting for them. There are some Libertarians that a further left than mainstream democrats while some are more right than mainstream republicans. Unless you are in a state where theres enough Libertarians to hold an actual majority of votes it's pointless for congressional voting.
They wont win any big ticket seats. But local governance is where libertarians really shine. But then again if they shift too far down one or the other political side you may as well just vote for one of the two parties.
It's a conundrum either way, for some reason I just thought to just say in a single sentence how a voted. I'm not above doing 5 minutes of research on my phone.
No, it's just that I don't consider Biden to be on ballots that he isn't on. I'm not going to vote purely to reduce the power of the democratic party if I don't have faith that the republican is actually a better choice. If you don't like it, vote the other way. The Repub won in my state, anyway, so if you want to be mad, you're going to have to direct it towards people that live in bluer states with closer races.
Why does your pole assume that voters are either Democrat or Republican.
Lots of us independents out there.
Yes I am voting. For whom I believe will be the best candidate for the office for each position.
This year I'm even doing a write in for one position (I have seen a write in candidate win a local election in my lifetime)
"Independent" is not a party. Thus, 3rd party does not fit.
"Independent" means not registered to or affiliated with any party, and voting for whom we feel is correct.
Wisconsin has a lot of Independents - and they actually control who wins statewide and federal elections in Wisconsin.
On presidential election years (and some midterm years) I visit both the Democratic and Republican headquarters in my county; tell them I'm and Independent who is researching candidates and issues. The staffs always provide me with any and all answers and full respect because in Wisconsin they know that it's voters like me that decide the elections.
I mean I'm libertarian and I didnt vote for other libertarians. I'm picky when it comes to Libertarians. Because they have more variations then republican or democrats. The variation counts because I could dilute the party I want to win. If it was between a libertarian and a democrat or a republican I hate the libertarian wins that vote. But between a R,D,L I have to side on the R. So that my L doesnt inenvertly cause the D to win.
Never seen a write in win. But I respect when a dog or a cat wins a mayoral election.
