American tax return

I've done my own taxes online for years now with H&R Block but last year I have made alot more than normal. Is there advantages to getting a professional to do your taxes?

    • I saw this on facebook. It may have been someone trying to sale their services idk.

"Client sent me a screenshot from turbotax. They said $4,440 was the refund. I said $10,034 was their refund. Yall better be careful using TurboTax. Theyre getting over this year (it was on the news). Stop leaving money on the table. Get with a pro."

There is no advantage to using a pro if it's just straight income reported to you on a W-2, and you only have the standard type deductions (Mortgage interest, some charity expenses, etc).

It's pretty hard to mess simple income with standard deductions up.

If you have a complex situation (other earned income, lots of deductions, etc) or run a complex business (tax wise) then a professional is likely money well spent.

The real problem is that most tax preparers are not really professionals at it. They've just had basic training and don't have a clue how to do the complex stuff.
