Is it normal that as a British person I have no fucking idea whatsoever about what the various NFL jargon means? Like what in the name of fuck is the difference between a "down" and a "play"?

    Perfectly normal. Would you expect an American to know what a googly is or where silly mid off is (cricket terminology)?

    I get you. Like just how is the guy who throws the cricket ball called a bowler. Shouldn't he be called a pitcher since he is pitching the ball but yet you call it bowling. Go figure how funny some cultures are.

          I quite often hear a few American accents in town as we have some US students at the nearby university (Durham) as well as tourists.
